Equine-asissted therapy Leiden and Equi-EMDR
Equine-assisted therapy is a highly specialized form of therapy in which you are guided by the therapist, the horse coach and the horses.
In collaboration with a horse coach, I offer equine-assisted therapy on a farm in Leiden on the Vlietweg. Horses are very sensitive animals, that live in a herd and are very social. They are alert to their environment and therefore to signals from the herd. As soon as we step into the arena with the horses, we become part of the herd. The horses respond to the non-verbal signals from your nervous system. The horses mirror your (often unconscious) reactions very clearly. This allows you to become aware of it. In addition, the horses are present to provide (emotional) support. This can be very helpful, especially for people who lacked love and/or support in their youth.
Within this setting we also provide EMDR, called Equi EMDR. Here, the presence of the horses also contributes to your process.
EXPERIENCE-BASED THERAPY
Equine-assisted therapy is ‘experience-oriented’, which means that you do and experience more than with ‘talk therapy’. We have a lot of experience in guiding and treating adults and children with (complex) trauma complaints and attachment problems. Other complaints can also be treated with equine therapy.
